Emzi Miller

August 2020

My name is Emzi Miller, and I teach 9th and 10th grade English language arts.  This is my 4th year at Avance and my 4th year of credentialed full-time teaching overall.  I am excited to be here working with fellow faculty members, students, and families for the good of our students.

A little bit of info about me: I grew up in Sacramento, California graduated from Jesuit High School in 2009.  I graduated with a bachelor of arts degree in English literature and creative writing from Seattle University in 2013.  In summer 2018, I graduated from UCLA with a master of education degree.

My interests include reading, writing, biking, and listening to music.  I am somebody who looks at teaching and working with young people as an important form of activism, and social justice has always been a hugely important part of my teaching philosophy.  I strive every day to deepen my relationships with all of my students and to hold them to high expectations.

On this website, you can find information about the course syllabi and for all of my classes.  However, I primarily use Google Classroom to organize and make available different assignments in my class.  Please contact me (or my colleague Ms. Lizbeth Garcia) for access.

Thank you for reading, and I hope you find what you need here.

Mr. Miller
